Half-Coated Spheres | Magnetic Half-Shells | Hemispherical Coatings
We offer unique capability to manufacture spheres with partial coatings. Half-shell or hemispherical coatings can be applied to any sphere (glass, polymer, ceramic), as well as different densities of microspheres. Coatings can be customized for any color and coverage of between 20% to 60% of the sphere.
Small quantity R&D vials of black-and-white spheres are currently offered for sale, for large volumes please contact us for a quote and lead-time.
Microspheres with magnetic half-shells have numerous applications in diagnostics, medical research, microscopy and biotechnology, as well as electronics, due to their ability to orient themselves in response to
electromagnetic field and show a visual response.
This is achieved by
making spheres both bipolar and bichromal,
with dipole precisely aligned with two differently colored hemispheres. As the spheres align themselves, the viewer will observe
the color of one hemisphere, while the other hemisphere will be hidden
from view, providing an obvious strong visible indication of the
presence of the field.
Retroreflective Microspheres Solid, barium titanate glass microspheres
with a 40 - 50 micron mean diameter, a tight distribution, and a top
size of 100 microns that have been hemispherically coated with a thin
aluminum shell. In bulk, they appear to be a grey powder. Under a
microscope, each individual microparticle can be seen to be a half
coated sphere. Produced under strict quality controls, these spheres are
made from a barium titanate glass that has a refractive index of 1.91, a
specific gravity of 4.49, moh hardness higher than steel, a crush point
of 30,000 psi and a degree of roundness in excess of 80%.
